Plain Talking Therapy

COVID-19 Information
We are now able to offer face to face sessions as well as continuing to work both online and by telephone. Arrangements have been put in place to minimise the risk for those wishing to be seen in person and the counsellor can talk this through so that people can choose the format that works best for them.

Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakes

Counselling Support in the Dengie

Dengie Counselling offers a face to face therapy service at a fixed price for adults, both individuals and couples, children and young people who are living or working on the Dengie Peninsula in Essex.  The service is based in Burnham on Crouch.

This website provides an introduction to Therapeutic Counselling and outlines what is available through this service.   It also provides you with an opportunity to email or telephone with any additional questions you may have.

If you are considering starting counselling, then the next step is to have a preliminary meeting with one of the counsellors.  This will usually last about 30 minutes, is confidential and free of charge.   It is an opportunity for you to describe the sort of things that you want to talk about and for the counsellor to get a feel for whether they will be able to support you in this.  At this stage there is no obligation on either side to commit to a counselling relationship.  Following this preliminary meeting it is intended that you would both have an understanding of whether you will be able to work together.  If this is the case, then you will agree a suitable time and day for the sessions to begin and confirm the counselling contract.  Where there is a sense from either side that this relationship is unlikely to bring the benefits that you are seeking, then the counsellor will suggest an alternative.

Safe

The counsellors have received appropriate training, are registered with nationally recognised regulatory bodies and have full indemnity insurance.  They receive regular supervision to ensure that they continue to work within their professional competency.  Confidential records are kept securely in line with best practice guidance..

Convenient

Appointment times and the location are designed to meet the varied needs of local people, reflecting the wide range of responsibilities and commitments that come with modern life. The nature of the locality means that many people travel significant distances to work so appointments will be available during weekdays, in the evening and weekends.

Wide Range of Issues

Counsellors are trained to deal with a wide range of the issues and experiences that are an integral part of the life stories of many people.   It is important that people feel able to talk openly and that the counsellor is able to hold whatever issues may come up during the work.  For this reason the first meeting will be used to consider the sort of issues that are likely to be discussed before any decision is made moving forward.

Value for Money

Counselling is offered at a flat rate so that the cost can be fully understood from the outset.  There may also be occasions when trainees on a placement are available for a reduced rate that is in keeping with their experience.
